My Splintered Social Media Personality

Our world is shifting. So is our social media experience. It has been this way for some time. At least that is what I witness.

Recently someone said the online world is chaotic, and in-person reality much less. Maybe so.

Society is upleveling. Poverty and crime are at all-time lows. We see this in our world, world-wide.

What is the real world? More than 94% of the world’s internet users are on social media, and 67% of the world is online.

I’ve often thought that our online experience is what we make it. Much like our physical world, it is a reflection of us. If you want to be argumentative and fight with others, you can do so. If you want to unite a peaceful community, you can do that, too.

If you want to be internet famous, you accept the stalkers and the nasty comments along with the huge following, which is not supposed to matter, but it does. Some say they find friends and lovers online, some think that’s only for the elite. We attract what we are, wherever we are.

So two thirds of the world are living in a real, concrete and tangible reality, and also in an online world created by which social media they are on. We take breaks from being with our in-person people we live with, if any, to disappear into our devices.

Do we even find anything satisfying there? Do we find what we’re looking for, what feeds our soul? Does the like attracts like adage still work online? Are we only an amplification of ourselves? Or does being connected cause a disconnection to who we really are?

Since the beginning of the time that I’ve been online, my approach is to be on ALL the social media platforms that resonate with me and my creative work. I share on most all of them, whether it’s original content, or repurposed.

I call this my splintered social media personality, which is inspired by what as I post as well as what I see others post. Little bits of me and shards I create, fractured across the online world I’ve made. None of them are me, but only when consolidated altogether give a picture of who I truly am and what I work on. What kind of content I post depends on where I post it. I post certain things in certain places and repurpose content across platforms.

Since the creation of social media, I’ve been on MySpace, Friendster, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Tumblr, Digg, Pinterest, Vimeo, Medium, Instagram, Reddit, LinkedIn, Goodreads, even Snap, Clubhouse, and now TikTok, Bluesky, Damus, Primal, Olas, Threads, Nos, Amethyst, Farcaster, Truth Social and more.

There are so many others such as Twitch, for gaming, and all the chat apps like WhatsApp, FB Messenger, Slack, Discord, Telegram, OxChat, Signal, SimpleX etc. Chats via apps are more personalized and private than texts through your phone operating system, but serve the same purpose.

Honestly, at this moment in 2025 NONE of the existing most popular social media outlets networks are resonating with me. NONE of them are created by women, or take women’s needs into account, except maybe Bluesky.

Of course there ARE social networks created by women, such as Herd, Copper, The Cru and more, but none of these have taken off as far as I can see. There’s Spoutable and Communia. Supposedly there’s a platform for everyone.

Yes, it’s about protecting all of humanity. The perfect platform would be safe for everyone as long as they’re honestly not trying to hurt others.

I compel all Women who like to socialize to develop something new, and implore that we need to create our own technology and own social network. Men who love women will love being on our new network, and it will be a perfectly balanced blend of content, since both women and men hold up the sky.

Creating a social network or community without a point of view, community guidelines and strong leaders is not going to work. It’s rare that things come together naturally. Curation is needed.

Both men and women must have equal leverage in the pubic sphere. Notably, in online communities, the Mom bloggers blazed a significant trail, and a profitable one. When women make money the world notices.

Until then, Bluesky, which is rapidly growing in the number of daily active users, TikTok and Instagram remain favorites. Hopefully a new network will woo me soon.

Nostr has possibilities. A major hurdle is the key pair login, which isn’t unique to Nostr but to any online crypto service.

Lightning payments within social media have potential. I was always a hopeful proponent of Square payments working inside Twitter in some way.

I still want to login with an email, not sorry. You can use an encrypted email service for more security. And why not create a platform that allows that, even with P2P payment capabilities, too? Coding is becoming a universal skill. People can create whatever they want. Communities within communities, online and in-person.

Moving on, I remain dedicated to my splintered social media personality. I play all sides and have a presence everywhere. No, this does not dilute. On the contrary, I remain robust. Robust and righteous. Right and ready for the next thing. Always writing what I see.—Michelle Z.
